World Sparrow day is today (20th March). The House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) was once a common sight. It was hard not to encounter one anywhere you went. It used to be so common that one almost called it a pest.
Times have changed…. this little bird is no longer easy to spot. They have disappeared from most localities and are facing a huge challenge just to survive. Habitat destruction and unavailability of insect food are thought to be the main reasons.
World Sparrow Day is being celebrated to spread awareness about the threatened status of this wonderful bird. Please visit http://www.worldsparrowday.org/ to know more.
