Greenfinch Keeping Guard

The past two visits I`ve made to Star Hill, I`ve encountered this greenfinch which gives me the evil eye! It sits around and screeches at me just out of view.

This is a sample screech. Play the file below:

I reckon it is a nesting bird and its getting nasty about me encroaching upon its territory.

The male and female greenfinches can be distinguished by the presence of streaky underparts, which also occur in the juveniles.

However, in this bird there is no streaking, making it almost certainly a male.

It is the job of the female to incubate the eggs, and when they hatch, both the parents are involved in the feeding.

Therefore, i suppose, while the female sits on the nest, the male keeps watch and screeches at intruders like me…well it certainly is doing a good job!
